Foil blocking is the process of applying metallic ‘foil’ to a paper surface by using a metal die. Foiling is available in a huge range of colours and textures, not just standard golds and silvers. Variations of foil come in matt, pearlescent, diffraction, and glossy. It adheres to most paper and cloth surfaces.

Debossing is the process of creating either raised or recessed relief image and design in paper and other materials, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material.

Foil stamping or blocking allows us to create a truly elegant finish.

The application of metallic or pigment foil onto paper, bookcloth, leather or other materials involves stamping a heated die on to the foil which releases the colouring layer and adheres it to the surface of the material in the design etched onto the die.

Embossing is the opposite of stamping, as the impression is raised rather than debossed into the surface. The process still requires heat and pressure if foil is to be used but requires a male and female die to achieve the desired effect.

  • Hot Foil Blocking – Foil can be adhered to most paper and cloth surfaces. Available in many different colours and finishes. Applied using a die or lettering. Used on books, boxes and slipcases.
  • De-Bossing – Image pushed in to material using a die or lettering.
  • Personalisation – Using one of the many type faces we hold, Used for personalising books, boxes and various other items
